Prenatal yoga is often misunderstood. It’s commonly taught as “regular yoga with modifications,” but pregnancy doesn’t simply require less intensity — it requires different care. A pregnant body is adapting quickly: breath mechanics shift, joints soften, balance changes, the pelvic floor and core function differently, and the nervous system becomes more sensitive. These changes can’t be fully supported by adjusting poses within a class designed for non-pregnant bodies. Thoughtful prenatal yoga starts from a different foundation. It prioritizes function over form, stability before stretch, breath that reflects pregnancy physiology, and education that supports both pregnancy and birth. This isn’t about fear, restriction, or avoiding movement. It’s about informed, intentional support during a powerful transition.
